International Medical Corps "Saving The Lives of Malnourished Children" has been chosen as one of the Top 25 of American Express' Members Project. Chosen out of 1,190 projects, "Saving the Lives of Malnourished Children" is now eligible to receive up to $1.5 million in funding. International Medical Corps is one of the Top 25 finalists. Right now IMC is #5 of 25 in current votingaccording to the Members Project. That guarantees them some cash but if they win they receive the $1.5 million winner's share.
For severely malnourished children,<> Our comprehensive monitoring system saves more than 90 percent of children being treated in our feeding centers.
The winners (Top 5) will be decided by net voting. One unfortunate fact is that you have to be an American Express Cardholder to actually vote. That burns me but since it's 'The Members Project' I guess it makes sense.
For those of us that are not cardholders, we can at least promote the existence of the competition. I've looked at all the finalists which are available here and I find IMC the most worthy finalist.
For severely malnourished children, we (IMC) offer a step-by-step treatment program that gives them what they need to recover, including nutrient-dense food supplements like the peanut-based product, Plumpy'Nut. Our comprehensive monitoring system saves more than 90 percent of children being treated in our feeding centers.
Hunger and malnutrition kill more people in the world than HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. As food prices rise, this funding is even more critical. More people are being driven deeper into poverty trying to afford basic staples. Many have nothing to eat at all. Your vote makes it possible for fewer young lives to be lost because they do not have enough to eat.
If you are an American Express Cardholder all you have to do is vote. Nothing more just vote. I am concentrating on IMC as I have drilled through their site and checked other sources through Google. I'm convinced this is an organization that I want to support as best I can.
Hungry children. I know they exist but it brings deep emotions to the surface when I face the magnitude of the problem. If you are a cardholder the least you can do is choose an organization and vote.
(In a separate fundraiser, direct donations by Oct. 31 will be matched by a large donor. I'll be sending them a tiny taste that will be doubled.)
